Rory Glenn of Saugus won top prize of the Acoustic Guitar Competition before a standing-room only crowd at Artistic Edge in downtown Livermore, Calif. in September.

Glenn was chosen from a field of eight finalists at the fifth annual Guitar Fest LIVE! competition, held at the Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center. His guitar performance landed him Glenn in the top spot.

Glenn began playing the guitar at the age of 13, influenced by his parents who both played and sang a variety of music at home.

He has developed a unique acoustic finger-style and overlays a new age-feel on music that combines rock, metal, blues and pop sounds.

Livermore local Chris LeBel took top honors in the singer-songwriter category.

The Acoustic Guitar Competition drew talented musicians from around the Bay Area, down to Southern California, and from as far away as Kansas, organizers said.

Finalists were chosen based on their technique, creativity, tone, musicianship and stage presence.

Prizes include acoustic guitars by Fender and Voyage-Air, recording sessions, and performance opportunities.
