A 35-year-old Chatsworth woman was killed Saturday on San Francisquito Canyon Road in a head-on collision, California Highway Patrol officers reported.

The driver of the second car, a 35-year-old man from Saugus, suffered minor injuries in the collision.

The woman's car, a 2003 Kia, was heading southbound on San Francisquito Canyon Road from Green Valley toward the Santa Clarita Valley around 8 a.m. when her car drifted into the northbound lane, the CHP report said.

The Saugus man, driving a 1999 Dodge about 40 mph, veered onto the right shoulder but was unable to avoid the Kia, which struck his vehicle head on, the report said.

The Kia was traveling at an unknown rate of speed, and the report did not indicate the woman was wearing a safety harness.

She was airlifted to Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills where she died at 9:08 a.m.

The Saugus man declined medical attention at the accident scene, about 1 and one-half miles north of Pelton Street.

The woman's name was not released because family members had not yet been notified of her death, CHP Sgt. Robert Lund said.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
