SANTA CLARITA - The California Department of Transportation is implementing a series of road closures until Friday as a result of a $14 million project to repave and rehabilitate Interstate 5 from Highway 14 to Highway 126.

Closures will occur nightly from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. and include cordoning off up to two lanes of northbound I-5 from Highway 126 to Lake Hughes Road and up to two lanes of southbound I-5 from Highway 126 to Highway 14.

The closures will also impact a number of freeway on-ramps and off-ramps in both directions.

Ramps to and from northbound lanes that will be closed include Calgrove Boulevard, Lyons Avenue, McBean Parkway, Newhall Ranch Road and Valencia Boulevard.

Ramps that run off and on the southbound lanes include Lyons Avenue, McBean Parkway, Rye Canyon Road and Valencia Boulevard.

Judy Gish, a spokeswoman from Caltrans, said all the ramps may be closed at the same time.

“But it is Caltrans policy not to close two consecutive ramps,” she said. “We don’t want them (drivers) to go more than a ramp out of their way.”

The closures are expected to run every night through Friday and are related to a roadway rehabilitation project that covers both directions of the I-5 from Highway 14 to Lake Hughes Road.

The project is expected to be completed in fall 2014, according to officials from Caltrans.
