SANTA CLARITA - A man who spent more than a dozen years cleaning shirts for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has been arrested for putting more than starch in laundry destined for the jail.

Juan Ortiz, 55, identified as a civilian laundry supervisor at the Pitchess Detention Center’s South Facility and a 13-year employee, was arrested Monday and charged with bringing narcotics into a jail facility, a felony.

Arrested by the Internal Criminal Investigations Bureau, Ortiz was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and resigned from the department, his career apparently washed up.

Bail was set at $30,000.
