Castro trial, Crawfish Bowl, Or Emet fundraiser.

Castro murder trial on break
The murder trial against Esperanza Castro was not in session on Thursday, and will resume Thursday at the San Fernando Superior Court.

Judge Burt Pines excused the jurors for the week and asked them to return next Thursday. Department J, where the case is being heard, will be dark during the next week. When the case resumes next week, the prosecution will continue to argue its case against Esperanza Castro, accused of killing her husband, Ramon Castro, in 2006.

Crawfish Bowl returns Saturday
The American Legion in Newhall is hosting its fundraising Crawfish Bowl Saturday for "the first time in a long time," featuring corn on the cob, crawfish, corn bread, T-shirt sales and raffles. It starts at 3 p.m. Tickets are $12. The American Legion Post 507 is at 24527 Spruce St.

Car hop, comedy fundraiser set
The Jewish congregation of Or Emet will host its annual fundraiser Saturday, which includes a car hop, dinner and a show with three comedians. The fundraiser will take place at 6:30 p.m. on the premises of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 24901 Orchard Village Road.
