National Weather Service forecasters Monday issued a fire weather watch for Thursday through late Saturday in the Santa Clarita Valley due to Santa Ana winds expected throughout the region.

A ridge of high pressure is expected to build over the Great Basin Thursday night and continue through Saturday, delivering Southern California temperatures five to 10 degrees above normal coupled with very low relative humidity, forecasters said. Highs in the 90s are expected.

“The Santa Ana winds are expected to peak Friday midday,” forecasters said, and relative humidity to fall to single digits by Saturday.

Fires that start under such conditions can spread rapidly and endanger homes and lives, officials said.
