HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (AP) — A fire in an underground electrical vault has injured and possibly killed a worker in Huntington Beach.

Fire Capt. Bob Culhane says firefighters called to the scene at around 12:15 p.m. Monday saw smoke pouring from the vault in the middle of the street but they had to wait nearly an hour for the power to be turned off before they could douse the fire.

Culhane says a five-member crew was working in the vault and four workers weren't hurt. Firefighters saw one man inside who isn't moving. Culhane says crews haven't been able to get into the vault yet to confirm his condition but a coroner's official is at the scene.

Southern California Edison says about 350 customers are expected to be without power until midnight.
