A Hart High School freshman was taken to the hospital this morning after she was struck by a car in front of Hart High School, but her injuries are not serious, a spokeswoman for the William S. Hart Union High School District said.

The girl was struck near the intersection of 14th Street and Newhall Avenue shortly before 8 a.m.

Hart High Principal Collyn Nielsen said the girl is “doing fine” and was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital as a precaution and to be checked, said district spokeswoman Gail Pinsker.

Fire Department paramedics were dispatched to the scene at 7:53 a.m., said Inspector Al Jackson.

“There is a multi-directional stop sign at this intersection,” Pinsker said. “My understanding is that she was in the cross walk.”

“The safety of our students and staff is our No. 1 priority, and we hope that all drivers obey the slower speeds posted in school zones,” she said.
