A senior center to emulate

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to visit the Simi Valley Senior Center. This center is state of the art, with modern architecture, and large carpeted meeting rooms. I saw a room filled with computers offering all levels of training. It seemed to go on and on as one hallway led into another. My understanding is this center is owned by the city of Simi Valley. Funds come from the city. Additional funding comes from holding events, including weddings.

Contrast this with our center, tired and rundown. The director, Rachelle Dardeau, does a wonderful job with what she has to work with. Our great city of Santa Clarita deserves a Senior Center that we can be proud of. It is utilized to capacity, and the need will only grow.

I suggest that our government leaders take a ride down the 118 freeway and find out how we can emulate the Simi Valley Senior Center.
