Caution: Hazardous artwork ahead

As a frequent driver of the Hasley Canyon roundabout, I have observed that 90 percent of drivers have no idea of the rules or etiquette involved in roundabout usage. Installing one of the proposed pieces of artwork in the center of the Newhall Roundabout is an invitation to disaster, as drivers try to figure out what it represents, rather than paying attention to their driving.

A roundabout can be a very efficient method of moving traffic as I observed during my three years living and driving in England. However, drivers do need to pay attention to what they are doing.

Install the artwork in one of the city parks where pedestrians can admire it at their leisure. A rock garden, landscaped with drought tolerant, native California plants would be a better choice for the Newhall roundabout.
