Firefighters got the jump on a brush fire in Canyon Country this morning, containing it to one quarter acre, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Shortly after 7:15 a.m. Thursday, Fire Department officials received reports of a brush fire by the northbound lanes of Highway 14 just south of Golden Valley Road, said Inspector Kyle Sanford.

Although officers with the California Highway Patrol posted alerts about the fire online including at least one report the fire was “picking up pretty well,” firefighters extinguished the fire shortly after 8 a.m.

A CHP spokeswoman said the fire did not stop traffic and no lanes were closed on the highway.

“It’s out,” Sanford said at 8:10 a.m. “But, they’re still out there mopping up.”
