Hart's Sophie Cortes, center, has committed to play soccer at UNLV.

Hart senior girls soccer player Sophie Cortes has committed to play for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Cortes, who was one of two Foothill League players named to the All-CIF-Southern Section Division II team last season, along with Valencia graduate Taylor Venegas.

Cortes, a midfielder for the Indians, scored six goals last season, tied for the team lead, and added an assist.

The UNLV Rebels are an NCAA Division I school participating in the Mountain West Conference.

Last season, the team finished 12-4-4 and advanced to the Mountain West Conference Tournament semifinals.

This year they are off to a 5-2-1 start.

Hart’s Cody Miller commits to Wofford

Hart high catcher Cody Miller bided his time at third base while the Indians had Baggio Saldivar behind the plate, but Miller didn’t wait long to make his college choice.

Miller, who will be the Indians’ starting catcher this season, has verbally committed to NCAA Division I Wofford College, Hart head coach Jim Ozella told The Signal.

“He’s caught with us in the summer, he’s always caught,” Ozella said. “It’s been his primary position in the past, but the past year or two he’s split time with Baggio during winter. It’s not like it’s a transition like a new position. It’s time for him to get into his home position.”

Last season, Miller hit .288 with 10 RBIs in 66 at bats for Hart.
