Walk-A-Thon set for Plum Canyon

Plum Canyon Elementary will be holding its annual Walk-A-Thon coming up on Oct. 16. This is a fundraising event for the school, and with last year’s Walk-A-Thon being so successful (over $17,000 was raised), the school’s PTA decided to move the event earlier in the year.

The Walk-A-Thon is a fantastic way to help support school programs and involve the students in a way that encourages them to live healthier lives.

The event is held during the school day with music and decorations, and the entire staff gets involved as well — some even running the whole time!

Students ask friends and family to contribute to their walk with a flat donation, and they are encouraged to raise $10 from 10 people. As an added incentive, students strive to reach certain prize levels.

For example, all students who raise at least $50 receive a special T-shirt, all students who raise $100 receive a free catered lunch, and those who raise at least $250 receive a four-pack of movie tickets to Regal Cinemas.

Those who raise the three highest dollar amounts receive special prizes. So if you see a child walking around Santa Clarita sporting a Plum Canyon Elementary Walk-A-Thon T-shirt, feel free to give them praise for a job well done!
