SANTA CLARITA - A 20-year-old Valencia man was arraigned Wednesday on charges he was under the influence of alcohol when he drove a car that crashed while towing his 19-year-old friend on a skateboard, a court bailiff said.

Dallas Taylor Hattox appeared at the Santa Clarita Courthouse Wednesday morning where he was official charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and having 0.08 percent or more, by weight, of alcohol in his blood while driving.

Hattox was arrested April 29 and originally charged with impaired driving causing injury for allegedly having towed his 19-year-old friend on a skateboard behind his car, California Highway Patrol Sgt. John Lutz said at the time of the incident.

On the night of the crash, both young men had been drinking when Hattox allegedly “allowed his friend to hang onto the tailgate of his vehicle while riding a skateboard,” Lutz said in April.

The car Hattox was driving eventually crashed into a curb, injuring another man, identified as Dakota Miller.

The vehicle was reportedly southbound on Las Canastas Drive north of La Montura Drive, a Valencia neighborhood south of Rio Norte Junior High School, when the crash occurred, Lutz said.

The car reportedly hit a concrete curb and a concrete wall on the south edge of La Montura Street.

Miller was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital having suffered injuries described in April as “moderate to major,” Lutz said.
