The perfect artwork for the Newhall roundabout

In the past few weeks The Signal has printed two front-page articles that, when considered together, reveal some interesting things about our City Council.

The first article, Sept. 11, “City rethinking roundabout art,” explains that the council now believes that we, the citizens of Santa Clarita, have not had sufficient input as to what should be the centerpiece of the Newhall roundabout and that they are postponing a decision until more input is received.

What a marvelous demonstration of community, of being civic minded, of being fair.

Never mind that the roundabout itself may turn out to be one significant disaster and a boon to auto repair shops. That’s a different matter.

The second article, Sept. 12, “Council votes down bag ban,” may seem unrelated until you consider the very different and somewhat disturbing thinking of these very same members of the council.

Municipalities all over the country have banned plastic bags, but our council is worried about a 10-cent charge for a paper bag.

Give me a break. Has the council no consideration for our environment?

Have they heard of reusable bags? Where have they been?

They are more concerned about a piece of art for the roundabout than our future well-being.

Based on the councils actions, I would like to suggest the perfect art piece and dedicate it to our City Council.

In the middle of the roundabout there should be five statues: Bugs Bunny, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Tweety Bird and Yosemite Sam.
