SANTA CLARITA - The body of a Castaic woman who went missing last month has been found in the desert near California City, a spokeswoman for the Kern County coroner’s office said Monday.

Martha Myers, 59, who lived on Villa Canyon Road in Castaic, was found in the desert on Sept. 1, said coroner’s spokeswoman Dawn Ratliff.

“We just identified the body as that of Martha Myers,” she said Monday. “She was found in the open desert by somebody passing through.

“Her vehicle was located near the body,” Ratliff said.

A missing persons bulletin posted by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Aug. 14 said Myers was last seen leaving her home Aug. 5 and reported her car had broken down early Aug. 6.

The bulletin said Myers suffered from bi-polar disorder and depression. A plea from her daughter on Facebook said she needed to refill her prescriptions.

A post-mortem examination was done on the body shortly after it was found, but the cause and manner of Myers’ death remained undetermined.

Ratliff said she expects to have a cause of death two to three months from now after she receives the results of tests, including toxicology tests.
