SANTA CLARITA - A popular kayaking and paddle-boarding spot on Castaic Lake will be shut down later this month as workers undertake a major project to renovate road and parking areas inside the park, officials announced recently.

Paradise Cove will be closed Sept. 23 and 24, but the road there and other parking at the lake will be closed longer, said Lori Bennett, superintendent at Castaic Lake.

“We have projects going on right now to replace some of the asphalt,” Bennett said. “We’re currently doing work on the roadway leading to Paradise Cove and some parking lots.”

“Someone who walks in can still use the beach,” she said. “But driving access is cut off.”

The spot is only one area earmarked for improvements during the construction project, a multi-phased effort expected to take two years, Bennett said. Most of the park will remain open throughout the project, she said.

Construction is permitted from the early morning to the early evening, with most of the work expected to take place on weekdays.

The lion’s share of the funding for the project comes from admission fees charged to park attendees, Bennett said.
