Pacifism has never proved to be the answer

Gary Horton’s (no relation) column about war is very revealing in that it delves into the short-sightedness of liberal thinking.

Mankind has waged war on itself since the beginning of time. The military action has always been for a good reason — according to the individual who starts the fracas; however, those caught up in the consequences of said action may have a different view.

To simplify the war down to a simple equation that all wars are bad is not a true evaluation of the given situation.
A lifelong study has taught me that there are many wars that need fighting, that war postponed can lead to a larger conflagration.

As an example, we can point to World War II. Early action may have prevented some of the later results, but we can never know.

Saddam Hussein had for years been a problem in his area. His own people had suffered under him, and his neighbors had been his victims. Thousands had died needlessly from his invasions, and finally someone had the fortitude to put a stop to his actions.

It is never clean and tidy, as some would wish, but when taken as a whole, his potential has been stopped. That the Iraqis can’t get along with each other is not the same problem as Saddam was.

Woodrow Wilson and Jimmy Carter are two pacifists who delayed action or took none when early involvement may have changed the outcome.

Carter’s simplistic view on Iran led to where we are today. In all of history, pacifism has never proved to be an answer.

Our current leader lacks guts to do the hard stuff and is totally clueless as to history. It is indeed regrettable that at this time in world affairs, we have such an incompetent in charge.

The leaders of the world see Obama as the weakling that he is, and though he may have swerved into a solution on Syria, there is no mistaking the lack of skill that has taken place.
