A Newhall man arrested in connection with the theft of a purse from a car parked at a Santa Clarita shopping center in June pleaded no contest Monday to one count of receiving known stolen property, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said.

Shermon Cox, 24, appeared in San Fernando Superior Court Monday and entered a plea of no contest to the single felony count, said Shiara Dávila-Morales.

Cox was arrested June 3 suspect following a foot pursuit through the paseos behind Granary Square shopping center. He is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 10.
