Valencia girls tennis wins California Classic

The Valencia Vikings varsity girls tennis team won the Division II championships at the prestigious 2013 California Tennis Classic in Clovis during the weekend, beating Arroyo Grande 7-5 in set tiebreaker after the teams played to 3-3 tie in the final.

In the match, the Vikings got set victories from all three doubles teams, which were Tina Inchalik and Remy Balmain, Lindsey Wolf and Lauren Wolf, and Kate Zeile and Amanda Braun. Staci Lowe also won a key singles set.

Also playing in the tournament was Sabrina Wueste and Katelyn Choi.

Leading up to the final, Valencia beat Menlo-Atherton, Granite Bay and St. Mary’s in pool play before knocking off Oakridge of Bakersfield in the semifinal of the championship bracket to set up the final against Arroyo Grande.

The tournament included about 120 teams from around the state, which makes it the biggest high school tennis tournament in the nation.
