The mother of a teenage boy missing for more than a week remains heartbroken as she awaits the outcome of an autopsy performed on the body of a man found burning Wednesday, she said.

“My heart is broken and I just continue to pray my son comes home to me,” said Karen Laspisa in an email to The Signal on Sunday.

Although she cannot disclose any details about the search for her 19-year-old son Bryce, or the murder investigation surrounding the body of a man found last week, the Laguna Niguel woman said she continues to provide whatever updates she can online.

“No news to update and not up to talking,” she wrote in the email.

“I hope to hear from the (Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau) detective soon regarding the (Los Angeles County) Coroner’s outcome on the burned body as well as an update from the crime lab results on the vehicle,” she wrote.

The body of a man found burning near Lake Hughes Road in Castaic Wednesday morning remained unidentified Sunday evening, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office said. An autopsy was expected to be completed before the weekend.

On Sunday, Lt. Cheryl MacWillie, of the coroner’s office, said she would not disclose any details about the case.

Bryce Laspisa, who attended Sierra College near Sacramento and whose parents live in Laguna Niguel, was believed to have disappeared somewhere in the Castaic Lake area on Friday, Aug. 30.

His SUV was found on its side at the bottom of a 15-foot embankment early that morning, and Laspisa hasn’t been heard from since, his family says.

Sheriff’s Department missing persons detectives are investigating the Laspisa case.
