SANTA CLARITA - Summer doesn’t end until Sept. 21, and Saturday’s forecast is for a high of 100 degrees.

But none of that matters at Castaic Lake, where lifeguards Friday were hauling in the 680-foot line that separates the swim beach from the rest of the lower lagoon to store the buoys until Memorial Day weekend 2014.

The swim beach barrier has 130 buoys to hold up the 680 feet of line, and lifeguards were working Friday to cut away the floaters from the line to be restrung again next year.

Meantime, the National Weather Service forecast a hot weekend ahead for the Santa Clarita Valley, with highs of 100 degrees Saturday and 99 Sunday. Temperatures were expected to remain in the 90s through at least Tuesday.
