SANTA CLARITA - A Lancaster man has been arrested in connection with a series of residential burglaries in the Santa Clarita Valley, a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station spokesman said Friday.

Thirty-year-old Alphonso Word Jr. was arrested Thursday in Lancaster.

After Word was detained, deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station executed a search warrant on his home in Lancaster and recovered a large amount of property believed to be stolen, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Station.

Word is suspected of being involved in several Santa Clarita Valley residential burglaries, including those that occurred on the 17800 block of Deana Lane, 17700 block of Hillsboro Place, the 28100 block of Winterdale Drive and the 18000 block of West Danielson Street, all in Canyon Country, according to the news release.

Each of those burglaries had similarities, according to officials, and detectives began to suspect they may be committed by the same suspect or suspects.

Word was arrested on charges related to residential burglary and for an outstanding arrest warrant for bus fare evasion, according to the news release.

He was then transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Word is scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Detectives are still seeking public assistance in returning the apparently stolen items that were recovered at Word’s residence.

“Although much of the stolen property has been returned to the rightful owners, we are still trying to locate additional victims,” said Detective Lucas Darland of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Anyone who has had items stolen recently from the areas of Canyon Country where the burglaries took place, or knows someone who has, is encouraged to contact Darland at 661-255-1121 or by email at LWDarlan@lasd.org.
