UPDATE: Child in Newhall transported to hospital after reported cardiac arrest

SANTA CLARITA - A Newhall child was transported to the hospital today after suffering a cardiac arrest, according to an official with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Fire Department Inspector Scott Miller said the department received the call about a pediatric cardiac arrest at 12:30 p.m. from a house on roughly the 24000 block of Pine Street in Newhall.

Crews were dispatched to the scene shortly thereafter and transported the child to the hospital at 12:40 p.m.
Miller said he could not release any information, including the child’s age and condition, due to privacy laws.

Officials from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station temporarily blocked intersections in the Newhall area to help clear a path to transport the child, said Lt. Mark Hershey.

Hershey said the closures were on a temporary, rolling basis and were meant to help the ambulance transporting the child reach the hospital as quickly as possible.
