SANTA CLARITA - A week after he first disappeared, apparently near Castaic Lake, 19-year-old Bryce Laspisa remains missing — and the identity of a body found burning in the area this week remains unknown, officials said Friday.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Guillermina Saldana said Friday morning there were no updates from efforts to locate the Sacramento-area college student, but the search for him was ongoing.

Laspisa apparently disappeared near the lake a week ago during a trip to Orange County. His vehicle was found on its side at the bottom of a 15-foot embankment on Aug. 30, and Laspisa hasn’t been heard from since, according to his family.

The teenager attended Sierra College near Sacramento and has parents who live in Laguna Niguel.

A body, reportedly that of a man, was found burning near Castaic Lake on Wednesday, but the body remained unidentified Friday, said Craig Harvey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

The body has not been autopsied and was not scheduled to be on Friday, Harvey said.

It is not yet known when the body will be ready for examination, Harvey said.
