SANTA CLARITA - The body of a man found burning near Castaic Lake on Wednesday remained unidentified Thursday, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office said.

An autopsy originally scheduled for Thursday is now slated to get under way Friday, Fred Corral of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office said Thursday.

The body was discovered early Wednesday alongside Lake Hughes Road by a passing cyclist who called it in as a brush fire. Firefighters doused the flames and called the Sheriff’s Department.

Homicide detectives have placed a “security hold” on information about the case, meaning details cannot be released, Corral said.

Investigators said Wednesday they don’t know if there’s a connection between the body and the disappearance last Friday of a 19-year-old college student in the Castaic Lake area.

Lt. Dave Dolson, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau, said detectives hope many questions about the body, including the victim’s identity, will be answered as a result of the autopsy.

Bryce Laspisa, who attended Sierra College near Sacramento and whose parents live in Laguna Niguel, apparently disappeared near the lake during a trip to Orange County. His vehicle was found on its side at the bottom of a 15-foot embankment early Friday, and Laspisa hasn’t been heard from since, his family says.

Sheriff’s Department missing persons detectives are investigating the Laspisa case.
