The Foothill League opened with a strong week in football, collectively finishing 5-0.

That was reflected in this week’s CIF-Southern Section Northern Division poll, as all Foothill teams moved up other than Hart, which remained at No. 1 after beating Santiago of Corona 56-49 on Friday.

The other three Foothill teams that were ranked in the preseason top 10 poll all moved up, including Valencia, which has yet to play a game.

The idle Valencia moved from fourth to third this week, though it will be tested in its season opener on Friday against division No. 2 Palmdale.

Canyon went from fifth to fourth following a 23-16 win over Westlake on Friday.

West Ranch beat up on Hawthorne 56-0 on Friday and earned a spot at No. 7 in the polls after coming in at 10th a week ago.

Santa Clarita Christian was ranked 10th in the CIF-SS Northeast Division last week, but fell off after falling 26-14 to Chadwick on Saturday.

Also released Tuesday were the CIF-SS preseason cross country divisional rankings.

As seven-time defending state champions, the Saugus girls came in at No. 2 in the CIF-SS Division II behind Simi Valley.

No other local girls team is ranked.

On the boys side, defending Foothill champion Saugus came in at No. 6 in Division II followed by Hart at No. 8.

The CIF’s preseason girls volleyball polls were released last week to reveal zero Foothill teams listed in the CIF-SS Division IA top 10. Santa Clarita Christian is ranked fifth in Division VAA.
