Anchored by its 65-acre main residential facility in picturesque Bouquet Canyon (Saugus, Calif.), LARC provides homes, recreation, social activities, physical fitness, day training, workplace training and more to developmentally disabled adults.

It’s hard to believe that the last big hurrah of summer has come and gone. I hope you all made wonderful memories with family and friends over the Labor Day holiday. Now we are headed toward football season and looking forward to Friday night lights and tailgate parties. On August 30th, Signal Multimedia got into the spirit of football and published the 2013 Foothill League Preview. If you didn’t get a chance to see this great section sponsored by Six Flags Magic Mountain, it’s not too late; copies will be available at the first home game for each Foothill Division High School. Our hometown newspaper, The Signal, is able to showcase the talents of our local athletes by the generous support of our advertisers; I thank each one of you who helped us produce this great piece of sports history. On an ongoing basis, you can find out all you want to know about your favorite high school team at www.signalSCV.com, where each school has their own webpage to highlight the incredible athletes, cheerleaders and coaches.

I love seeing live theater. Something about knowing the emotion is raw and live, a mistake can happen at any time, and you can see the actors and actresses faces much more clearly than you could through a digital screen. One local performance I am extremely ecstatic for is Santa Clarita Ballet’s upcoming Swan Lake & Midsummer Night’s Dream performances at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center. My family goes on an annual basis to the Nutcracker, and it’s always a gorgeous performance that stirs the Holiday spirit. I’ve never seen a live performance of Swan Lake, but from what my wife tells me, I am in store for something wonderful! Our own local Santa Clarita Ballet Academy offers a comprehensive dance program with an emphasis on classical ballet. They are enrolling students year round, so if you want to know more about their programs or what shows they have coming up, give them a call at 661-251-6844. For ticket info, visit www.santaclaritaballet.net or call 661-251-0366. I’ll see you at the show!

Here is what I know, healthy and happy kids make for a happy home. I bet you all agree the same goes for healthy, happy pets! Well, you are in luck, because Happy Pets Veterinary Center agrees with us! Happy Pets offers up all of the traditional veterinary services and manages to take it up a notch by offering alternative medicine for the comfort and care of your animal. Services like acupuncture, homeopathy, chiropractic, pain management, laser therapy and physical rehabilitation. They also have ZEN therapy treatment room and offer house calls and a pet shuttle.

These people love animals, but it doesn’t stop there. The care and concern that they exhibit for the families of their patients is abundantly obvious in all of their communication and interaction. I am thoroughly impressed with all things Happy Pets and I encourage you to meet them. Look out for additional information on SignalSCV.com – more to come!

The smell of smoke in an indoor arena, the cries of anguish when a non-lethal laser blasts the rumble pack on your chest. Like others that have grown up in Santa Clarita, I have great memories of playing laser tag on Cinema Drive. Now that tradition has returned with Valencia Laser Blast setting up shop in the location I only remember as Q-Zar. Laser tag is fun for all ages, and is a real non video game version of capture the flag. Check them out at valencialaserblast.com and tell them Mike from the Signal sent you!
