Prosecutors today charged a 26-year-old North Hollywood man with murder in the death of a woman who allegedly fell from a moving vehicle last week onto the eastbound Foothill Freeway, according to a spokeswoman with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

The criminal complaint against Ricardo Jimenez, 26, includes a special allegation that a knife was used in the commission of the offense.

Prosecutors have identified the victim only as Maria J., whom they say was seen falling from a car onto the 210 Freeway in Sylmar early Thursday morning. She was hit by numerous vehicles, said Deputy District Attorney Carolyn McNary.

The victim, identified by media reports as Maria Josefina Jimenez, and the defendant were in a dating relationship, she said.

On Saturday, Jimenez turned himself in after learning he was wanted for questioning. Prosecutors have recommended bail be set at more than $1 million.
