Saugus junior standout swimmer Abbey Weitzeil advanced to the 50-meter freestyle final at the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships on Friday in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Her time of 25.56 seconds in the semifinal made her the No. 4 qualifier among eight finalists who made it through the Friday race.

Earlier in the day, Weitzeil swam in the prelims of the event, qualifying with a time of 25.92.

The decorated Saugus High swimmer made it to Dubai by winning the U.S. junior national championship in the 50 free with a personal-best mark of 25.27 on Aug. 9 in Irvine.

On Wednesday, Weitzeil also took part in a mixed 4x100 freestyle relay prelim race, where she helped the U.S. team advance to the final later that day.

Saturday will mark the final day of the six-day World Junior Championships. Weitzeil’s 50 free final is listed to begin sometime after 6 p.m. Dubai time, which would be 7 a.m. locally.
