The Santa Clarita Valley Search and Rescue team responded to Castaic Lake, where a car was apparently abandoned after running off Lake Hughes Road early Friday morning.

Sgt. John Caffrey with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Parks Bureau said the team was called out to conduct a thorough search of the area to hunt for the driver of the vehicle or evidence as to what caused the crash.

“We want to be safe and double-check the area,” he said.

Caffrey said it appeared the crash occurred when a vehicle traveling on Lake Hughes Road left the road, ending up near Castaic Lake, which is in the Parks Bureau jurisdiction.

The car was found abandoned around 5:35 a.m.

“It appears the driver left the scene (and) did not suffer any serious injury,” Caffrey said.

California Highway Patrol officers were also investigating the crash.
