Let’s start off this letter to the editor by not calling it a complaint but a way to solve a problem.

The United States Post Office — I love that post office on Creekside Road — has a drop-off mail box. Great innovation.

If you have an SUV, which is higher off the ground than a regular car, you has no problem inserting mail into the mail slot.

But a regular, old-fashioned car is lower to the ground, making it very hard to deposit mail. The mail slot is too high and not close enough.

The drop-off mail slot doesn’t extend far enough out for the average mailer to drop off mail, and a short-armed person is at a double disadvantage.

Driving up closer to the box is not an easy task.

If there were not a fixed side-view mirror on the car, the attempt would be easier. But the mailer would still have to get closer, possibly ending up scraping his or her tires against the curb. This is inconvenient.

The solution: Extend the mail slot out just a few inches.

Skeptical? Try it once yourself in an old-fashioned car.

Don’t be embarrassed when you have to get out of your car with four or five cars behind youbecause you can’t reach the slot while you are going through the contortions of trying to drop off your mail.

The fun part is when you misjudge the mail slot and your mail drops to the pavement. By the time you get the mail where it’s supposed to be, the darlings behind you are ready to lynch you.

Please be so kind as to join me in informing the postmaster at the Valencia Post Office of this problem.
