SANTA CLARITA - A discussion on the content of the 2001 California Voting Rights Act featuring some local elected officials will be held Thursday night in Canyon Country.

The discussion will be held at Round Table Pizza, 16534 Soledad Canyon Road, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Some local agencies — the city of Santa Clarita, Santa Clarita Community College District and Sulphur Springs School District — are facing lawsuits alleging that their at-large systems of electing board members violate the Voting Rights Act by preventing minority voters from electing candidates of their choice.

Several elected officials have indicated they plan to attend the forum. One of the lawyers involved in the lawsuits, Kevin Shenkman, has also told The Signal he plans to attend.
