SANTA CLARITA - Santa Clarita’s third annual Heroin Kills Symposium is scheduled Wednesday evening, providing an opportunity for all residents to learn about the deadly drug that has gained a foothold among some local youth.

The free symposium will provide tools needed to identify signs of abuse and other resources for parents to understand heroin and prescriptions drug abuse, which are problems affecting families in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Also featured will be a panel of experts from public health and safety groups, schools, and treatment and recovery programs.

“Heroin and prescription pill abuse has destroyed far too many Santa Clarita families,” Mayor Bob Kellar said in a prepared statement.

“As a city, we continue to fight back, and one of the best things community members can do is to get informed.”

The symposium is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Santa Clarita Activities Center, 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway. All residents are welcome.
