Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s deputies are searching for a car allegedly stolen Sunday afternoon in Canyon Country after a man attempting to sell his car let a potential buyer take it for a test drive.

At about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, on the 26000 block of Soledad Canyon Road, the owner of a 2002 black Honda CR-V let the prospective buyer get in his car and drive it away by himself, according to deputies.

That’s when the suspect absconded with the car.

“They met in a strip mall parking lot,” said Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“The owner let him take it on his own and he took off.”

Deputies were still looking for the car and suspect, but did not say if there was a general area they were searching.
The suspect was described as a Hispanic male about 30 years old.

The car license plate reads 7AHX393, according to Bryski.

“It’s entered in the system as stolen,” he said.

Lt. Bryski also offered sound advice for car owners.

“It’s not wise to let someone you just met take your car without you being in it,” he said.

Anyone who sees the car or has any information about the crime is urged to call the SCV Sheriff’s Station at 661-255-1121.
