Two Santa Clarita rest-aurants that opened during the economic downturn are closing their doors in the Bridgeport Marketplace shopping center on Newhall Ranch Road.

Meals at both Frankie’s Italian restaurant and the Sake bistro are coming to an end at the end of this month.

Frankie’s opened in 2008 and owner Frank Competelli styled it after his Los Angeles restaurant on Melrose Avenue to give diners the feeling of eating at home, not a restaurant. The local eatery was reportedly operated by family members.

While no one could be reached for comment, the restaurant has a big banner hanging outside its restaurant announcing a farewell summer bash on Aug. 25 at 2 p.m.

Frankie’s last day of business in Santa Clarita is Saturday, Aug. 31.

Sake Bistro & Sushi opened in December 2010, specializing in steaks, seafood and sushi, but served a wide variety of foods. It later expanded to a large outdoor seating area as well.

While the day to day owner couldn’t be reached for comment, an employee at the bistro confirmed the restaurant is closing at the end of the month as well.

A new restaurant, however, is expected to open for business by the middle of September, said a source close to the group of property owners at that location.

The new restaurant is said to have a different menu and even be more family-friendly.
