Sheriff's deputies arrested a 22-year-old Newhall man for investigation of domestic violence and attempted kidnapping following an apparent fight with his girlfriend, sheriff's Sgt. Michael Wright said Monday.

"It looks like a domestic violence issue between a former boyfriend and girlfriend where he wanted to bring her with him," Wright said. "Making someone move against their will is kidnapping."

The attempted kidnapping occurred about 3 p.m. Sunday at the 7-Eleven at Soledad Canyon Road and Sierra Highway in Canyon Country, Wright said.

Deputies searched for suspect Salvador Rodriguez-Bautista in the 20900 block of Via Estrella in Canyon Country, responding to information that Bautista was at a home on the block, Wright said.

But "(Rodriguez-Bautista) ended up not being there and was located later," Wright said.

Rodriguez-Bautista was arrested in Newhall, surrendering peacefully to deputies at 10:20 p.m. Sunday, Wright said.

"The main charge is domestic violence," Wright said. "He was also charged with kidnapping because he grabbed his girlfriend and pulled her a short distance."
