Two people were injured, one of them seriously, after their vehicle overturned off Interstate 5 near Parker Road in Castaic on Saturday afternoon, according to a California Highway Patrol Officer.

CHP Officer Monica Posada said the crash occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, a car veered off the northbound freeway near Parker Road.

The car continued traveling north on a surface street until it hit a curb, according to Posada.

After hitting the curb, the car overturned, eventually coming to rest touching support cables holding up a power pole belonging to Southern California Edison, Posada said.

The car eventually came to a rest on its side.

The driver, a 57-year-old man from Benicia in Northern California, suffered “major injuries” in the crash and was transported to the hospital, Posada said. A 54-year-old female passenger, identified as his wife, suffered minor injuries.

Both went to a local area hospital after the crash, Posada said.

It appears the crash only involved one vehicle, Posada said. The names of the driver and the passenger have not been released.
