Saugus High pitcher and University of Oklahoma commit Mariah Lopez was part of the Team Mizuno travel softball team that participated in the 14U PGF National Championship earlier this summer.

Lopez helped the team win the tournament, defeating the So Cal Athletics 5-0 for the title.

“Her coach was texting me after and she was dialed in and threw amazing and really stepped up for her team,” said Saugus head coach Julie Watson.

Saugus second baseman, sophomore Cayla Kessinger, has had an impressive summer, as well, picking up over 20 scholarship offers, according to her father Cory.

Watson hopes the summer success translates to success for Saugus next season.

“To gain the confidence over the summer and have the skills, some were just young (last season) and I’m looking forward to them coming back and continuing what they did over the summer at Saugus.”
