Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's deputies arrested Salvador Rodriguez-Bautista, 22, late Sunday evening on charges of domestic violence and attempted kidnapping, said Sgt. Michael Wright.

"It looks like a domestic violence issue between a former boyfriend and girlfriend where he wanted to bring her with him," Wright said. "Making someone move against their will is kidnapping."

The attempted kidnapping occurred about 3 p.m. Sunday at the 7-Eleven convenience store at Soledad Canyon Road and Sierra Highway. Deputies set up a containment in a search for Rodriguez-Bautista, of Newhall, in the 20000 block of Via Estrella, responding to information Bautista was at a residence on the block, Wright said.

But "(Rodriguez-Bautista) ended up not being there and was located later," Wright said.

Rodriguez-Bautista was arrested in Newhall when he surrendered peacefully to deputies at 10:20 p.m., Wright said.

"The main charge is domestic violence," Wright said. "He was also charged with kidnapping because he grabbed his girlfriend and pulled her a short distance."
