SANTA CLARITA - A Saugus man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a computer from the school he was hired to provide security for, officials with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station announced Thursday.

Aleksei Ilnitskiy, 32, has been charged with commercial burglary for allegedly stealing a silver iMac computer from Golden Oak Community School, which is located on Via Princessa in Canyon Country.

The computer was allegedly stolen at approximately 9 p.m. on Aug. 4, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Station.

The date and time of the burglary were determined by using security camera footage, according to sheriff’s officials.
During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Ilnitskiy, an officer with a private security company hired to provide security at the school, was at the scene at the time of the burglary.

A sheriff’s deputy later found that Ilnitskiy had obtained a key to the school building and that the stolen computer was located at the security company’s main office, according to the news release.

Deputies searched the office and recovered both the key and the computer, they reported. A second computer that had been reported stolen from a different Santa Clarita Valley school was also found inside the security company offices.

Deputies are investigating when and how the second computer was taken.

Ilnitskiy was arrested on Aug. 9 for burglary and has since been charged with one count of felony commercial burglary, according to sheriff’s officials.

Ilnitskiy is being held on $65,000 bail and is set to appear in court Aug. 21.
