SANTA CLARITA - A Riverside college student who went missing in the Santa Clarita Valley early Monday morning was discovered to be hospitalized Tuesday after friends launched a search for him, his mother said.

Michael Owen Gray, 21, vanished at 1:17 a.m. Monday after leaving a friend’s apartment on Sierra Highway near Soledad Canyon Road with the intention of retrieving a blanket from his car, said his mother, Teri Gajria.

He was found safe late Tuesday afternoon when a regional hospital contacted her, Gajria said.

Gray was “found wandering around” an area near the apartment buildings “yelling and shouting,” she said.

Gajria learned of her son’s whereabouts after posting “missing” signs around Canyon Country and enlisting the aid of Gray’s friends to search around the apartment and in the Santa Clara River wash on Tuesday.

She also hired a private investigators with a tracking dog to help in the search, she said.

Gray, a student at Riverside Community College who recently moved to Santa Clarita, was not physically injured during the time he was reported missing, she said.

“He was going to his car. He left his cellphone and wallet, had his socks on, no shoes, and didn’t come back,” she said.
