A 58-year-old motorcyclist was rushed to the hospital with major injuries after he was hit by a woman suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, a sergeant with the California Highway Patrol said today.

Shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday, a woman driving a 1987 Toyota Matrix northbound on The Old Road was preparing to make a left turn onto Sagecrest Circle when the collision occurred, CHP Sgt. John Lutz said today.

“She turned directly into the path of an oncoming motorcycle,” he said.

The motorcyclist, identified as Johnny Sanchez Jr. of Lake View Terrace, was traveling southbound on The Old Road on a 2005 Suzuki motorcycle, Lutz said.

“He suffered major injuries,” Lutz said.

Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department took the man to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, he said.

The woman was arrested and placed in the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail.

Suzette Lorine Crockett, 46, of Chicory Court in Stevenson Ranch, is charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol causing injury.

Crockett remains in custody on $100,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in San Fernando Superior Court Tuesday.
