Pray for the Jerusalem of David

As Secretary of State Kerry gathers Israeli and Palestinian Authority representatives for another set of "peace talks" in Washington D.C., a major consideration will be Jerusalem, D.C. (David’s City).

Jerusalem has been the historic capital of Israel and the heart and hope of Jewish people everywhere for more than 3,000 years.

The Palestinians are Arab-speaking immigrants to the ancient, biblical land. They have never had an independent state or capital anywhere.

From modern Israel’s re-birth in 1948 to the Arab-Israeli war in 1967, the West Bank (aka biblical Judea and Samaria) was under the sovereign control of Jordan (as was East Jerusalem). Gaza was controlled by Egypt.

During the 19 years of Jordanian and Egyptian occupation of these areas, neither Arab nation considered giving any territory to these Arab brothers to form their own country.

Israel has been the only entity willing to negotiate with the Palestinians on this issue.

Now the U.S. seems intent on forcing Israel to divide its land with the Palestinians and possibly deploying international "peacekeepers" in the Holy City.

How much better if we will follow David’s plea and "pray for the peace of Jerusalem" (Psalm 122:6).
