A one-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 5 near Rye Canyon Road sent one person to the hospital with minor injuries, according to an officer with the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos said the crash occurred shortly before 2 p.m. on southbound I-5 when a sport-utility vehicle rolled over.

The vehicle eventually came to a rest on its side.

Initially, reports from the scene indicated that as many as three vehicles were involved in the crash, Villalobos said, but it turned out the other vehicles had pulled over to try and help the injured SUV occupant.

“At this point it is considered a solo vehicle traffic collision, but we’re still trying to determine what happened,” Villalobos said.

One person suffered what Villalobos called “minor injuries” in the crash and was transported from the scene by ambulance to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

“We don’t know the extent of the injuries at this point,” Villalobos said.

The crash temporarily blocked one of the southbound freeway lanes, Villalobos said, but the road fully reopened shortly after 3 p.m. after the SUV was towed from the scene.
