March 13

The Knights of Columbus will sponsor the 29th annual 5K run at 9 a.m. at the west end of Pico Canyon Road in Mentryville. Entry forms are available in the Runners Lane show store on Bouquet Canyon Road in Saugus. Pre-registration is $21 or $27 with a shirt, if received by March 10. Reduced fees for children under 17. City of Santa Clarita Emergency Expo 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visit the Emergency Expo and learn how to be better prepared for all types of disasters. Demonstrations and displays from Fire, Sheriff, CHP, Public Health, CERT, Henry Mayor Hospital, Animal Care and Control. Opportunity to purchase emergency supplies and services. Preparedness learning games for children. Chances to win safety helmets and many other prizes. This event is free. Certified sommelier instructor, DiMaggio Washington, will host wine tasting classes at TPC Valencia.

April 5
"The Newhall Incident" 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society. A retired Newhall California Highway Patrol officer, Harry Ingold, one of the first officers on the scene following the massacre, will speak on the 1979 tragedy where four young CHP officers were gunned down on April 5, 1970 in the lot of a Standard Service Station next to J's Coffee Shop on what is now the intersection of the Old Road and Magic Mountain Parkway in Valencia. Held at the Saugus Train Station in Heritage Junction at William S. Hart Park, 24101 Newhall Avenue (formerly San Fernando Road) in Newhall.
