With one day left to apply to run for elected office in the Santa Clarita Valley in November, a longtime educator has decided to join the race for a board seat in the Newhall School District.

Valencia resident Sandra Bull told The Signal Thursday she has filed paperwork to run for a seat in the elementary school district.

Bull, who retired in 2012 after more than 25 years as an educator and school administrator, said she thinks she can bring a fresh perspective to the board.

“I think that since I’ve been in education for such a long time, I understand all aspects of running a school,” Bull said.
Prior to her retirement, Bull worked as an assistant principal in the Sulphur Springs School District and worked for 17 years in the district.

Bull will run against three incumbents in the at-large election — Philip C. Ellis, Christy Smith and Brian Walters.

Friday at 5 p.m. is the deadline to file paperwork to get on the November ballot for an office in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Seats in the Newhall district, Castaic Union School District, Newhall County Water District, Santa Clarita Community College District, Saugus Union School District, Sulphur Springs School District and William S. Hart Union High School District are all up for election this year.
