A Palmdale sheriff’s deputy facing multiple felony charges, including sexual penetration under the color of authority and rape under fear or duress, has pleaded not guilty to the charges, District Attorney’s officials said.

Deputy Jose Rigoberto Sanchez, 28, a seven-year veteran of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station and a Valencia resident appeared in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom Wednesday and entered a plea of not guilty, said spokeswoman Jane Robison.

Sanchez, who remains in custody at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility on bail set at $1.45 million, was arrested July 15 at his home on Montevista Court in the area of Decoro Drive and Copper Hill Drive, according to sheriff’s reports.

He was arraigned Wednesday on 11 felony counts including sexual penetration under the color of authority, rape under fear or duress, and soliciting a bribe from alleged victims.

Sanchez was ordered to appear back in court Sept. 16.

He was relieved of duty with pay in 2010 after a six-month internal probe into a report that he told a woman he had pulled over that he wouldn’t arrest her if she had sex with him. He allegedly repeated the action two nights later with another woman.

If convicted, Sanchez faces up to life in state prison.
