Stepping in as your new Newhall, Zone 6 Deputy, I’ll give a quick introduction. My name is Danial Dantice, I have almost 22 years of experience on the Sheriff’s Department, 7 of which were on teams similar to the Santa Clarita Crime Prevention Unit/Zone Deputy. I have been working a nighttime patrol unit in the Newhall/Valencia area since my arrival at Santa Clarita Station almost a year ago. I will be working closely with the other CPU Zone leaders, patrol deputies, and station detectives to assist the community in crime prevention and problem solving.

A look back at the crime statistics for Newhall (Zone 6) last week shows a slight increase in reports taken, but the drop in violent crime continues. We had one residential burglary, two vehicle burglaries, a grand theft, a theft from an unlocked vehicle, one petty theft, and one stolen vehicle.

On Monday, July 29th, between 2:00am and 4:00am, a vehicle parked in a parking lot of the 22700 block of Lyons Ave, was burglarized. The suspect broke a window to enter the vehicle, and took property that was probably visible from the outside (ref 10347). Always be aware of the items you leave in your vehicle in plain sight. If it appears to be a bag, purse, or package capable of containing valuables or electronics, it could present the easy opportunity somebody is looking for. Cover, conceal, or secure your valuables.

Between Sunday, July 14th, at 3:00pm, and Monday, July 15th, at 12:00am, in the 20900 block of Costa Brava, an apartment was burglarized. There was no sign of forced entry, but property was missing (ref 10416). Be aware of who is lingering around your apartment complexes, and neighborhoods. Report suspicious activity to the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s station at (661)255-1121, 24 hours a day.

Between Monday, July 29th, at 8:00pm, and Tuesday, July 30th, at 7:00am, a petty theft occurred behind a business in the 24200 block of Main St. Taken was approximately 40 gallons of used food grease (ref 10431).

Between Monday, July 1st, and Tuesday, July 30th, jewelry was stolen from a residence in the 21600 block of Placeritos Blvd (ref 10446).

Between Wednesday, July 31st, at 2:00pm, and Thursday, August 1st, a silver, 1987, Toyota pick-up truck was stolen from the 24800 block of Railroad Ave. The vehicle was being used by a business, and keys may also be missing (ref 10546).

On Sunday, August 4th, between 6:55am, and 7:40am, a vehicle was burglarized in a parking lot of the 23200 block of Lyons Ave. A window was smashed on the vehicle, and several concealable items were stolen. The suspect possibly placed the stolen items into a gray lunch bag, and fled. The incident is currently being investigated, and any information can be reported to the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s station, (661)2551121, or if you want to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers (800)222-TIPS (8477), reference report number 10649.

Between Saturday, August 3rd, at 7:45pm, and Sunday, August 4th, at 11:30am, golf clubs and an ipod were stolen from an unlocked vehicle, in the 23500 block of Adamsboro Dr. (ref 10659) Always remember to lock your vehicles, and secure your valuables.
