Have you ever wondered what eyebrow threading is? Where it came from? Or why it is so popular? Threading is a hair removal technique that uses 100% cotton thread. The thread is then twisted and rolled along the eyebrow area to shape the brows, by removing the unwanted hairs by the root. By most accounts, threading originated in the Middle East, India and South Asia. The practice is becoming popular in the United States in recent years. Many people are choosing threading over waxing because of the organic nature of the procedure which does not use any chemicals. In addition, this method is very precise and does not damage the skin. While waxing and plucking can often leave unwanted stray hairs around your eyebrows, a threading artist goes through your hair row by row, giving eyebrows a clean and defined shape. Threading only removes hair, not skin, and because it is so exact, it can remove hairs that are finer than those that can be removed by waxing or plucking. Elegant Shapes was the first threading salon in the Santa Clarita Valley and continues to provide superior service performed by highly experienced, traditionally trained professionals. Elegant Shapes also offers another service that originated in Middle East – Henna Tattoos. Henna tattooing, done in the traditional way, creates a one of a kind design that reflects the inner beauty in each client. Some of the other services you can find at Elegant Shapes are: Skin Care, Bridal Services, Eyelash Extensions, Eyebrow and Eyelash Tinting, and a few others. When you visit Elegant Shapes you will be pleased by the upscale atmosphere and creative staff – but surprised by the truly affordable prices. Elegant Shapes is located at Valencia Crossroads, 24214 Valencia Blvd., Suite 203 B or give them a call for your next appointment at: 661-284-2198. Be sure to look for more from Elegant Shapes soon at

Looking for something different to eat for dinner tonight? Pho Sure in Valencia is, by far, my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the Santa Clarita Valley. Initially, I was hesitant to try Pho, which is basically a big steaming bowl of beef broth and noodles with vegetables and your choice of protein. The bowl of broth is so hot; it basically cooks the meat in the bowl right in front of you! Once you sit down and smell the beef broth and taste a few bean sprouts, you’ll be hooked. Not only does their Pho taste amazing, but it also comes at a very reasonable price! When you head in, make sure to try the P3 (which is their basic Pho), toss in extra bean sprouts, squeeze some lime on top and add some of their Hoison sauce… you won’t be disappointed! Pho Sure is located at 23876 Copper Hill Drive in Valencia, 91354. Make sure to tell them Brandon sent you!

My son plays video games. Your son probably does too, right? My husband and I decided it was futile to fight it. Instead, we are fostering it and working on a way to get him ‘ahead of the game’, so to speak. We thought if he could learn some additional skills, perhaps he could monetize them in the future. We sent him to C.O.C. Summer Institute for video game creating and we are all glad that we did. My son enjoys the classes, the interaction and his newly acquired knowledge. It was a good call. C.O.C. Summer Institute is a smoothly run machine of fun and information on many subjects, not just video game creating. Check it out next summer. When you do, let them know Alesia sent you.

Hi, my name is Michael Madigan and I am the newest addition to the advertising team here at The Signal. Having grown up in Santa Clarita, I am very excited to work in this valley and help local business owners formulate strategic marketing plans to help their business grow. I played Canyon Country Little League, AYSO soccer, Santa Clarita Christian School basketball and flag football. I took a brief sojourn to North Hills for high school, but came back for a stint at College of the Canyons. Along the way I worked at the local Best Buy, opening up the Magnolia Home Theater department, as well as, local property management companies. After finishing my degree at UCLA and attending as many football games as possible, I worked in dental sales (Implant Direct Sybron) and most recently, at the Los Angeles Times in their division. I believe that all of my experience in different industries makes me excellent at providing advertising solutions to local business owners and beyond!

Basketball is the number one fastest growing sport in the USA. A healthy mindset attained from playing basketball can only affect someone in a good way, especially for young kids. Of course it is also exercise and a fun one at that.

U.S. Basketball University, here in Santa Clarita, offers great programs designed to maximize the skill development of their student-athletes and also assists them to build winning habits that lead to success on and off the court. Coaches are all former college or professional players. They also have extensive experience coaching youth basketball. They assist their athletes to recognize and appreciate that with improved ability comes an increased responsibility to become an effective leader and valued teammate. U.S. Basketball University offers programs year round. We enrolled our daughter last year at U.S. Basketball University and within a short period, the program has definitely helped her improve her skills. This program has given her the confidence she needs and has made her strong both mentally and physically. We are so pleased with Coach Cruz, Coach Nana, and all the other Coaches involved in this awesome program. All of the coaches at U.S. Basketball University are patient, very knowledgeable and make it so much fun for all of the players. Currently, U.S. Basketball University is enrolling for the Fall Season. If you have any questions regarding their programs or would like to enroll your child, you can reach the Athletic Director, Coach Cruz at 661.312.3045 or for general inquiries send your message via
